TOURISM : Priority sector for the Government and with greater weight in the country’s economy, representing about 21% of GDP. The country receives more than half a million tourists annually, and is expected to soon reach 1 million tourists. In terms of the offer, the presence of international reference brands in the sector stands out: RIU, TUI, Hilton, Sol Melia, Thomson fly, among others.

The proximity of the main tourism emission markets in Europe, the existence of 4 international airports (on the islands of Boavista, S. Vicente Sal and Praia), the mild climate combined with the landscape and cultural diversity provided by the island are strengths of this sector .

RENEWABLE ENERGY : At the moment the penetration rate of renewable energies already represents around 20%, one of the highest, in Sub-Saharan Africa. The government aims to achieve a high penetration rate of renewable energy in the coming years, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and its effects on the country’s balance of payments. For all these factors it is considered a priority investment sector. Cape Verde has one of the largest wind regimes in the world (18m / s) and great solar potential with an energy / day ratio of 6-8 Wh / m² / day.

ECONOMY OF THE SEA : The geostrategic location in the Atlantic at the center of the trade route between 3 continents, has always been a competitive advantage for the country, making it naturally attractive in terms of the logistics hub in terms of port activity and ship repair. The government’s strong investment in the modernization of the country’s main ports, with 3 deep-water ports at present, is clearly a sign of the prioritization of this important sector for the country. Despite its small territorial size, Cape Verde has a wide exclusive economic maritime zone of 789.4 thousand km2, about 9.4% of the EEZ of all Sub-Saharan Africa.

In parallel, the fishing industry (fish processing) is growing and contributes to most of the country’s exports. According to INPD estimates, the fish potential, considered as sustainable, is between 36 to 44 tons
