Gabon has at its disposal a rich soil with mineral resources with more than 900 mining index, among which the most important are: manganese (a stock of about 250 millions tones) , iron ( a stock of more 1 billion tones) , gold and scarce soil. However, the mining sector in Gabon essentially depends on manganese exploitation and contributes slightly to the Gabonese economy with 4% of GDP.
